It only took 4 months to get back out in the van for a trip. We have been working on our backyard this winter, converting the grass to all natives. I may write a post to show the transformation once it is all complete.

Our first trip of 2025 had been planned since last year. We took a whole week this year. It was really needed. Wayne and I decided to celebrate 25 years of wedding bliss back in GA on Jekyll Island. It is such a beautiful island and so much to do and see. This trip we had picked out our campsite so we were not on top of our neighbors. Last year we were crammed into our small spot and others were walking through our campground, which is a big no no. Just like last year we woke up in the early morning darkness to catch the sun rising over Driftwood Beach. In the afternoon we rode our bikes all over the island. In total we rode just over 100 miles. The sunrise each morning was different but the bugs were present everyday. Unlike last year we caught sunset at St. Andrews Beach on the southeast side of the island, took a tour to learn about the history of the island and revived our putt putt golf competition. We have played putt-putt golf over the years at various locations and in our personal tournament Wayne and I were tied 5 to 5. Not anymore. Although Wayne had 2 hole in ones overall I beat him by 1 stroke.

Wildlife sightings: Bald eagles 1 mature and 2 juvenile, Brown Thrasher, American Robin, Cardinal, Blue Jay, Great Blue Heron, Royal Tern, Brown Pelican, Pileated Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadee, Bottlenose Dolphin, Cormorant, Black Skimmers, Laughing Gulls, Alligator, Carolina Wren, Catbird, Stilts, Red-winged Blackbird, Wood stork, White-tailed Deer.

Snapshots

Faith Chapel was built in 1904 and was designed by New York architect Howard Constable. The 1st stain glass window above depicting the “Adoration of the Christ Child” was designed by father-daughter team Maitland and Helen Armstrong. Maitland worked for Tiffany and you can see the resemblance to the 2nd window above which was designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany himself. The pictures do not do these windows justice. The windows are on opposite side of the church and face east and west so the sun lights them up and it is just magnificent to see.
