Trip 1c – Faver Dykes State Park

Dates:April 20-21, 2024
Campsite:22
Amenities:Water, Electric
What we learned:We do not have to go to all the state parks
Would we go back:No
Website:Faver Dykes State Park

We drove A1A from Jacksonville and stopped in St Augustine to check out Anastasia State Park and the lighthouse before arriving at our last stop Faver Dykes State Park. We did not have enough time to walk through downtown St Augustine or go to the Alligator Farm but we checked out the State Park and when I got home I booked it for next year. This way we can explore the area some more. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse. All 219 steps.

I am glad we did not rush to Faver Dykes. Though it is a nice park and the campground is about 1.5 miles into the park and we had been warned about ticks and well they have ticks. As the park ranger told us we are in a forest and in forest there are ticks. But I was not prepared for our experience. We did not hike. All we did was sit outside the van under the awning and Wayne found 2 ticks crawling on him. To say the least we were not happy. I am not one to complain about bugs since after all we are outside, but we were just sitting outside. The song by Brad Paisley “Ticks” came into my mind where we had to check each other for ticks before going into the van.

Wildlife sightings: Anastasia State Park: Gopher Tortoise. Faver Dykes: Amarillo, Caterpillars, Deer, Turkey, Ticks
