Trip 2 – Planes, Trains, Automobiles and a Ferry

Concerts, National Parks, and a wedding were on the agenda

Atlanta – Planes & Trains

For Waynes birthday we flew to Atlanta, took the MARTA train from the airport to the CNN station. We went to see The Rolling Stones at the Atlanta Falcons stadium. Mick, Ron, and Keith are all in their 80’s and you would think they were ready to hang it up but no. They really put on a show, running around the stage, changing outfits and playing instruments. It was a great show. The fans really came out as well. We saw so many stones concert t-shirts from many different years. The older fans were there with their children and even some grandchildren. Music really does bring everyone together.

New York – Planes, Cabs, Trains, Boats

Bright and early the next day we were up and off to the Atlanta airport to fly to New York City to meet my sister and her family. We all arrived at the hotel at the same time and once settled into our rooms we were off to find lunch and sightsee. On Saturday night while the girls went to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden the boys went to see the Yankee play the LA Dodgers at Yankee Stadium. I have to say that this was the best Billy Joel concert I have ever been to. I have seen him about 4 other times and by far this was the best. Not sure if it was because I was with my sister and my niece or him playing to his home town crowd or a combination of it all but it was just awesome. Wayne and the boys had a good time at the baseball game but it was a blowout and the Yankees lost. I think the girls had better seats.

Sunday we had tickets to climb the Statute of Liberty all the way to the crown. I lived in CT about an hour from NYC for 25 years and never went to the Statue of Liberty so I was excited to go. It was raining on and off but we had a great time seeing Lady Liberty up close and walking through Ellis Island where our ancestors came through on their way to fulfill their American Dream. The walk up to the crown was 162 very steep steps. It is a double helix structure and you walk basically straight up. The area at the top of the crown is really small and the windows are small so you could not see much. Glad we did it but not sure I would do the climb to the crown again.

Wayne and I stayed in NYC till Wednesday walking all over and we took an architectural tour of NYC by boat. I had never seen the city from the water and this trip I got to see it twice. The tour circumnavigated the island of Manhattan and was narrated by a registered New York architect. Wayne was in heaven.

SNAPSHOTS

A trip to New York would not be complete without a roof top bar and some night photos.

Boston – Trains, Automobiles, and Ferry

On Wednesday we traveled by Amtrak to Boston for our niece’s wedding. We finally had to rent a car as we were outside the city and there were a bunch of people and distances between places. We arrived early to help Sarah and Carson with pre-wedding tasks. We had a blast meeting all of the friends and family. Wayne officiated the wedding and re-wrote the ceremony the morning of the wedding. It was good before the rewrite but it was awesome afterwards. They were married on June 15 under a large oak tree at the Trillium Brewery just outside of Boston.

Sadly on Sunday we had to leave for home. We took the ferry out of Hingham MA to the airport. I have to say this was so easy and cheap. No hassle of returning a car, or traffic to deal with.

We had a great time and it was easy to travel with just a backpack. I think this is the first trip Wayne and I have taken that we did not bring our mirrorless cameras. There were times we wished we had the bigger cameras but I think it was nice just to do a minimal trip.
