We did not stay at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park this weekend, we just stopped by to check it out on the way home. As it is very wet we wanted to see what the park looked like and what we would see. We always like to see what other State Parks are in the area on our trips so we can stop by and check them out. We have stayed at Kissimmee Prairie multiple times and really love it.
Even with all the water we went slow and I mean real slow. We drove Peavine Road to the bend and walked to the alligator hole. It took us over 3 hours to go to the gator hole and back. When you go slow you see things. Caracara, Deer and fawn, alligators, black racer, pine lily, turkey, red bellied woodpecker, ibis, and grasshoppers. As with nature some items are just in your memory as they come in and out too fast to get a photo of. There were no gators at the main gator hole there was just too much water. We did see gators on both sides of peavine road. I think momma was on 1 side and her 1-2 year olds were on the other. There was also a 4-5 year old gator at the culvert by the parking area where you walk to the big gator hole area. Kissimmee Prairie never disappoints.
Wildlife sightings: Green frog, Caracara, 4 baby gators, 1 larger gator and 1 medium size gator, Pine lily, Peacock butterfly, Great Blue Heron, Ibis, Vulture, Kingfisher, Red Bellied Woodpecker, Black Racer, Turkey, Deer and fawn
